Who Should Attend?

This class is for anyone who wants to learn how to extend an application, like Microsoft Dynamics Business Central (BC), to automate manual steps and processes. Specifically, we will learn the basics for both Microsoft Canvas Power Apps and Microsoft Power Automate.

Prerequisites: None.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this class, participants will be able to:

  • Build a Microsoft Canvas Power App that enables users to manage Contacts in BC (or in other sources)
  • Obtain an understanding and basic knowledge of Microsoft Power Fx
  • Create Tables in Microsoft Dataverse
  • Build flows in Microsoft Power Automate, including flows that require approvals

Class topics

  • Microsoft Canvas Power Apps
  • Microsoft Dataverse
  • Microsoft Power Automate
  • Power Automate Approvals
  • Build Flow with Approvals – New BC Opportunity with Task Checklist

This class will be a fun and fast paced course that will not only cover the basics of 3 areas of the Microsoft Power Platform (Canvas Apps, Automate, and Dataverse,) but we will build a complete project from the beginning to end. Not only is working a project from beginning to end fun, but it’ll also provide you with insight when you begin your own projects.

What will we build? We’ll create a Canvas app that allows users to manage contacts and their opportunities on their phones, or the web, or Teams, etc. When someone enters a new opportunity, flow will kick off a series of emails with questions and/or tasks to other users. Using the approval feature in Power Automate, users will mark these tasks as completed which will kick off more tasks. At this point, Microsoft Power BI, which we will not cover in this class, can be used to report on the status of assigned tasks. I know, WOW, right?

Field of Study: Computer Software & Applications

Program Level: Basic

Advanced Preparation: Each student will receive via email connection instructions to their individual virtual classroom link and hands-on practice environment shortly before class. Connections to both resources should be tested before class. We recommend using a second monitor while attending class.

Version: This class is taught in Microsoft Power Apps, Microsoft Dataverse, and Microsoft Power automate; using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) data. Note: This class is not just for BC users. We will use the Contacts and Opportunities in BC, but these concepts can be applied to any data.

Learning environment: As experienced trainers of adult learners, we understand how to make training “stick”. We use proven practices to make sure you retain what you learn and are fully equipped to immediately apply what you discovered in class.
