What is a business process assessment?

An assessment looks at your current business processes, how you use your ERP software, and the setup of that software, to see where you could be using your ERP system in a better way than you are currently.

When is a good time to have an assessment?

If you are continually running into errors, take a long time to review results because of inconsistency or errors in your reporting, or just know that “there has to be a better way” to do something, these are all early indicators that an assessment could help.

What happens during an assessment?

One of our senior-level consultants will visit with you and your team either at your offices or remotely. We’ll run through a set agenda, interviewing the group to understand exactly where they are experiencing pain. We will observe some select job functions to see how things are being done today. In addition to that, we look behind the scenes to learn exactly the settings that are being used by your software, and to understand the volume of transactions created in each business area.

How long does it take?

It will generally take anywhere from 2-3 days to 1 week, depending on the complexity of your business. Very complex companies may need more time.

How much time will my team need to participate?

If you have a couple of superusers who are involved in all areas, they will likely spend over half their week visiting with us during the initial assessment. Depending on the agenda and their responsibilities, you may have some of your team visit with us for only a few hours.

What will we get?

You will get a detailed report that identifies all the recommendations we have for each functional area. We find most of our customers have on average, over 100 recommendations they can act on once the assessment is completed.

What will we learn?

We make 4 types of recommendations with an assessment. After review of your system, we’ll provide a detailed report that categorizes:

  • Simple things you can do right now with your system, without any outside help.
  • Training your team may need so they can use functions of the software they don’t yet know how to use.
  • More complex issues that may require a deeper dive to understand the problem or to create a solution.
  • Areas where you may need to work with your Microsoft partner for a customized programming solution, or perhaps an add-on software solution.

What’s the return on investment?

Our customers report immediate return on the cost of the assessment in time saved due to simple process changes done immediately. Many of the recommendations made are system efficiencies that easily eliminate unnecessarily complex processes, heavily paper-based systems, dual data entry into multiple systems, and overall underuse of the capabilities of the ERP system.

What are the next steps after an assessment is completed?

You’ll receive your report within a couple of weeks of our visit. Along with the recommendations, we’ll deliver an immediately actionable plan to show you exactly how you can tackle the list, keeping your business priorities and pain points front and center.

What happens when I say YES to an assessment?

We’ll get some time scheduled to visit with you and your team at a time that works best for you!

Can we combine the assessment with other things, like training?

Absolutely! If you know already training is needed, we can schedule that to occur in the same time frame as the assessment. We often recommend a couple of hours of “on the fly” training, to address simple things in the moment, when we observe a need for training during the assessment. This often leads to some quick wins, with your team having a positive experience with the assessment process, because they get something out of it to help them immediately with their jobs!

Should I consider a 2nd assessment? Why?

We often have customers who have already had an assessment come back after a couple of years for another one. The reasons are usually that their business has changed substantially in the last few years, or they’ve had significant growth, or they’ve had some staff turnover, or they may be preparing for some big changes and want to be ready.
